Corps Delays Sagamore Lane Closures Until At Least Wednesday

SAGAMORE – The Army Corps of Engineers now says they will not implement lane closures on the Sagamore Bridge until at least Wednesday.

The Corps was scheduled to start closing down one lane on each side of the bridge on Monday, but decided to work off-road underneath the bridge instead. Similar work is planned Tuesday and no lane closures are planned.

The earliest lane restrictions will go into effect will be Wednesday morning, according to Corps Spokesman Tim Dugan, but weather will likely play a role as to whether crews go up on the bridge or not.

The contractor will make that decision Wednesday morning.

Plans call for replacing damaged roadway joints, improving the sidewalk and increasing waterproof elements of the span.

Work is expected to last through late May. There will be no lane closures after Memorial Day.

Similar work is scheduled for the Bourne Bridge after Labor Day.
