Corps: Sagamore Bridge Work Ahead of Schedule

BOURNE – The Army Corps of Engineers reports that construction on the Sagamore Bridge is ahead of schedule.

The contractor working on the span plans to start phase three of the project this week, which will result in the closure of sidewalk access on the bridge.

Pedestrians and bicyclists will either have to use the Bourne Bridge or will have to find another way across the canal, such as public transportation or ride shares.

The Corps started a 55-day project earlier this month to repair damaged roadway joints. The construction has caused significant delays at the bridge due to one lane being closed down in each direction, 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

No wide loads will be allowed to cross the Sagamore while the lane restrictions are in effect.
