Saquatucket Marina Landside Renovation Plan Making Progress

HARWICH – Design plans for renovations to the Saquatucket Marina landside were approved last month by Harwich selectmen.

The four-building plans call for a new office for the harbormaster, a restaurant, a ticket office, maintenance garage, boardwalks, artist shacks and almost 80 more parking spaces.

“This expanded Saquatucket Marina complex location is going to be a beautiful, modern facility and a popular destination for boaters, non-boaters and the general public,” said Matt Hart, the chairman of the Saquatucket Development Committee.

Final cost estimates are being developed to go before voters at town meeting on May 1.

Hart said grant funding has helped to make the project possible.

Last year the town received a $1 million grant to be used for the replacement of the docks on the waterside of the marina. A $187,000 grant was also obtained to create the design of the landside development.

Design funding was approved at Town Meeting last year.

If the proposed renovations are passed at Town Meeting, the project could be put out for bid this summer with construction work possibly beginning this fall.
