COTUIT – Cotuit Center for the Arts is presenting An Evening with Paula Cole this month.
Grammy Award-winning vocalist Paula Cole returns to Cotuit Center for the Arts for a memorable night of her smash hits like “I Don’t Want to Wait” and “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?”
Rolling Stone magazine has called her “An extraordinary songwriter with a gorgeous voice,” while Herbie Hancock described her as “a fantastic artist,” and Peter Gabriel praised her as “an original voice.”
Cole is touring in support of her new album, “Ballads,” which features American jazz and roots standards from the early to the mid-20th century, honoring such greats as Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, John Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Bessie Smith, Bobbie Gentry, Sarah Vaughn, Miles Davis, and Johnny Cash.
Born and raised in Rockport, Cole studied jazz singing at Berklee College of Music and got her big break opening for Peter Gabriel’s 1992-93 Secret World Live international tour. Her debut album, “Harbinger” (1994), was well-received, and, in 1997, she won the Grammy for Best New Artist for her platinum album, “This Fire.”
Cole had a starring role in Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair tour for several years and has since released six albums, “Courage,” “Ithaca,” “Raven,” “7,” “This Bright Red Feeling,” and her latest, “Ballads,” which debuted at number 10 on the jazz albums chart. Cole’s sound has broadened in recent years, as she has delved into jazz, electronica, and contemporary pop, but her stunning voice and melodic gifts remain constant. She records on her own label, 675 Records.
Cole has sold approximately three million albums, performed with icons such as Peter Gabriel, Dolly Parton, Herbie Hancock, Emmylou Harris, Amy Lee of Evanescence, Burt Bacharach, Counting Crows, Matchbox 20, and currently has over four hundred thousand monthly listeners on Spotify.
Cole has a loyal fan base who appreciate the depth of her catalog, the loving artist-fan relationship, and the wisdom earned through pain, tears and joy.
Between her touring schedule and producing albums, Cole is a professor at Berklee College of Music. She continues to write, produce, record, and perform heartfelt, meaningful, lasting music that defies categorization.
General admission tickets are $55 and $50 for balcony seating. There is a $5 discount for members and a $2 discount for seniors and veterans.
An Evening with Paula Cole kicks off Sunday, December 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cotuit Center for the Arts.
