COTUIT – A local organization is calling on Cape Cod movie lovers to check out a new series coming to the mid-Cape next month.
For three weeks in October, the Cotuit Center for the Arts is hosting “The Best of the Woods Hole Film Festival 2018”, a showing of three award winning films from this year’s Woods Hole Film Festival.
The series will run for three consecutive Sunday nights in October.
On October 7, the Center will be presenting Best of the Fest Shorts. The 110-minute program features a selection of the best short comedy, drama, animation, and documentary films.
The program also includes two local films: A documentary about El Pond Bridge at Woods Hole called “Keeper” by Marnae Crawford Samuelson, and a stop-motion animation satirical, “Liberty and Justice: A Cautionary Tale in the Land of the Free,” by Falmouth residents Sally Mayor, Rob Goldborough and Mattias Bossi.
On October 14, the series will be screening a 90-minute documentary, “Afghan Cycles” by Sarah Mahzies and Shannon Galpin, which uses the bicycle to tell the story of the human rights struggles Afghan woman face on a daily basis.
The series finale, scheduled for October 21, will screen “Keepers of Light,” an hour long documentary by Liz Witham and Ken Wentworth that tells the story of the Gay Head Lighthouse, and the importance of lighthouses to maritime travel back in the days of whaling.
Tickets are $14 to each screening, which begin at 7:00 p.m. in the main performance space of the Cotuit Center for the Arts. For more information, visit woodsholefilmfestival.org.
