Cotuit Center for the Arts to Host Sixth Annual Kentucky Derby Gala

COTUIT – The Cotuit Center for the Arts will be hosting its Sixth Annual Kentucky Derby Gala next month.

The Gala includes live betting, a hat parade and contest, photo ops with horses, fun and games, surprise events, and, of course, mint juleps. The Kentucky Derby will be broadcast live on the center’s high-definition, 26-foot movie screen.

“This is one of our signature events of the season—a really fun and festive gathering and it helps to raise much needed funds for the center,” said executive director David Kuehn.

“This event will sell out fast, so please pre-order your tickets in advance to make sure that you get into the hottest Kentucky Derby party on the Cape!”

Last year, the Gala attracted over 200 participants and raised over $7,500 for the center.

There will be four opportunities for betting, including two raffles, a First-Second-Third betting pool, and a Horse Auction.

There will be a $5 raffle and a $10 raffle. Participants will buy a sealed envelope with the name of a Derby horse inside. After the race, those with winning envelopes will share 50 percent of the total bet for that raffle.

Bets for the First-Second-Third betting pool are $5. Half of each of the three winning pools will be split among the winners. In the Horse Auction, each of the Derby horses will be “auctioned off” in a silent auction. The high bidder on the winning horse takes home half the total bet.

“Don’t worry,” said Kuehn. “We’ll have lots of representatives to explain all the rules and odds at the event.”

All participants will gather at 6:30 p.m. to watch the running of the Derby. After the race, dessert will be available and winners of the Hat Contest and the betting options will be announced.

The gala will be held on May 4 from 3:30 p.m. through 7:00 p.m. at the Cotuit Center for the Arts, located at at 4404 Route 28 in Cotuit.

Tickets are $25 for adults. Children under the age of 12 are admitted for free.
