Cotuit Center for the Arts to Open 2 New Exhibits

COTUIT – The Cotuit Center for the Arts will be opening two new exhibits in its galleries at the end of the month.

“Packets: Abstract Art by Paul Mascott” will feature art and music that explore pointillism, expressionism and serialism. A second exhibit will feature sculpture by John Cira.

The exhibits will run from April 30 through May 28.

Mascott’s exhibit is described as a reaction to the computer-generated straight-line aesthetic. The exhibit’s title piece, “Packets,” is a multimedia experiment that combines visual art and electronic music based on the twelve tone system.

The music will be performed live on April 30 at 7:30 p.m. and then will be played in the gallery during the exhibit’s run.

Cira will display works throughout the month including wooden sculpture and pieces built from found materials.

Cira’s installation, STRETCH/HOOK, will cover the walls, floors and windows of the gallery with spandex fabric. An event on May 28 at 8 p.m. will see a performance art piece by jazz pianist Kenney Werner and dancer DeAnna Pellecchia. The performance will include the dismantling of the installation by Pellecchia.

Admission to the gallery is free but tickets to the STETCH/HOOK performance are $25 and $20 for members, seniors and students.
