Council Of Churches Holding Benefit On Saturday

CAPE COD – On Saturday, The Cape Cod Council of Churches will hold its Generations of Hope benefit.  The event will raise funds and serve as a chance to celebrate and acknowledge the help that the council provides on a daily basis.

“The Council of churches is an organization that has existed almost sixty years.  We focus on assisting our neighbors who are in need.  We provide assistance through goods and finances,” said Executive Director Edye Nesmith.

They have seven programs which serve more than 6500 people annually.  These include Hands of Hope Food pantry, the Youth Street Reach, and a baby center.

Nesmith is quick to point out that it is a team effort.  “We exist as a collaboration of a variety of communities to make their outreach dollars go farther and tackle those bigger issues on the Cape.  It’s hard for smaller groups to be able to make an impact individually.”

Catherine D’Amato, CEO of the Greater Boston Food Bank and part-time Cape resident, will be honored for her nearly four decades of work.
