BOURNE – As blizzard-like conditions swirl around Cape Cod, county officials have determined there is no need at this time to open the regional shelter system.
At its 10 a.m. conference call Monday, the Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee reviewed the storm and the forecast for the remainder of the day.
“The regional shelter system will not be activated at this time, but all regional shelter system partners are on standby should conditions warrant shelter activation,” read a statement from the planning committee.
The Barnstable County Multi-Agency Coordination Center was opened Monday morning at Joint Base Cape Cod.
It serves as a central contact point for resource requests from Barnstable County towns and agencies. Representatives from Eversource and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency were also on hand.
County officials were keeping a close on flooding conditions from Plymouth down to Cape Cod, and urged residents to stay inside for the duration of the storm.
If needed, regional shelters can be opened in Sandwich, Falmouth, Barnstable, Yarmouth, Harwich and Eastham.
