Court Hearing Today For Man Accused In Route 28 Motor Vehicle Homicide

gavelBARNSTABLE – The South Yarmouth man charged with motor vehicle homicide and drunken driving after an incident on Route 28 in Yarmouth last December has a court hearing today.

Paul Dennehy’s attorneys are asking a judge to dismiss the case over a missing booking video. The Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office has asked Judge Kathryn Hand to allow the case to move forward.

Dennehy, 55, pleaded not guilty last year to running over and killing longtime Westfield firefighter Kevin Regan, 62, and seriously injuring his girlfriend, Lynda Cavanaugh. The accident happened near the Parkers River Bridge.

Police and fire officers responded to the crash on December 27 at 11:43 p.m. Regan was transported to Cape Cod Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Cavanaugh, who had multiple traumatic injuries, was then taken by medflight to a Boston area hospital.

Dennehy remained at the scene where he was given sobriety tests. Police say he admitted to drinking earlier at two West Yarmouth establishments. Police said they determined that he was intoxicated and he was arrested at the scene.
