MASHPEE – A criminal investigation is underway in Mashpee into potential misuse of a school student activity account in the Mashpee Public School system.
The town’s police department is now looking into the matter after the town’s Treasurer became concerned with some type of activity discovered through a routine reconciliation.
In a statement, Mashpee Town Manager Rodney Collins said an outside firm was retained to investigate the matter. The firm’s findings determined that a criminal investigation was necessary.
Collins said that schools Superintendent Patrica DeBoer was notified and has fully cooperated with the investigation.
No more information was provided by town officials.
“The Town will not make any further statement while the criminal investigation is pending,” Collins said. “This information is provided for the purpose of transparency and to ensure that public trust will not be compromised.”
