HYANNIS – Republican Will Crocker beat Democratic candidate Aaron Kanzer Tuesday for the 2nd Barnstable State Representative seat.

Crocker’s victory was declared less than two hours after the polls closed, beating the 21-year-old Kanzer 11,829-9,716.

The Republican replaces Democrat Brian Mannal who was not seeking re-election, and seeks to bring a bi-partisan attitude to Beacon Hill.

“I want to work both sides of the aisle,” said Crocker. “I want to learn what it is to be able to get up there and work in coalitions, work with people that we may have different views, but let’s look and see what we can agree on.”

The newly elected Republican aims to focus on a number of issues including the opioid crisis, homelessness, and taking care of retirees and veterans.

The race had been closely watched by the state Republican Party, which viewed the seat as a possible pick-up for the GOP. Crocker takes over for Democrat Brian Mannal, who decided not to run for re-election.

It’s the first time the Republicans have held the seat in several decades.
