CENTERVILLE –  A member of the Barnstable Town Council is launching a run for the 2nd Barnstable State Representative seat.

Republican Will Crocker represents Precinct 6, which includes sections of Centerville and Marstons Mills and is a teacher at the Bristol County House of Correction.

“I am passionate about serving the residents of Barnstable and Yarmouth. As a town councilor, I have worked tirelessly for our community,” Crocker said in his campaign announcement.

The 2nd Barnstable District is currently held by Democrat Brian Mannal, who is running for re-election.

Crocker said he can do a better job than the incumbent.

“We are being under-served by our current representative and I believe both Barnstable and Yarmouth need a stronger voice on Beacon Hill. I vow to be that voice,” Crocker said.

He said two key issues facing the district include homelessness and opioid epidemic. Crocker said his experience in the correctional system gives him a unique perspective on the issues.

“Walk down or drive down Main Street, you see people who are obviously strung out on drugs and are in the streets and are bothering people,” Crocker said.

Prior to teaching, Crocker was a radio news anchor on Cape Cod and spent 20 years teaching high school speech and debate at Barnstable High School, Silver Lake Regional High School and Falmouth Academy.

Crocker is also a trustee for Cape Cod Community College and the Barnstable Historical Society, and serves as a sub-deacon at St. Michael the Archangel Christian Church Orthodox Church. He plans a formal kickoff next month in Hyannis.

Crocker ran unsuccessfully for the seat in 2006.
