BARNSTABLE – A group of runners will be hitting the streets of Cape Cod this weekend to raise money for a good cause.
The annual Ruck4HIT event is a 220-mile relay race challenging teams of runners to carry 20-30 pound ruck weight through all 15 towns on Cape Cod.
The race benefits Heroes in Transition, a group working to help veterans and military families dealing with the burdens of war.
“As every service member is forced to carry the burden of war during active service and beyond, carrying the ruck sack is symbolic of hardships endured and the perseverance required to complete the mission,” organizers wrote.
Participants will run in a relay format from anywhere to 2.25 to 4 miles.
As part of the team challenge, participants will carry the weight up to the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown.
The event will be held on Friday and Saturday.
The cost to participate is $99. Teams need to have 7 runners, 2 drivers, 1 van, and a $5,000 team fundraising minimum.
Heroes in Transition was started in 2009 after Capt. Eric Jones of Mashpee was killed in the line of duty.
