TRURO – Cape and Islands State Senator Julian Cyr is receiving national recognition for his work to support the state’s LGBTQ community.
Cyr is one of five legislators across the country to be named a finalist for the Victory Institute’s 2018 Tammy Baldwin Breakthrough Leadership Award.
The national Victory Institute is an organization dedicated to elevating openly LGBTQ leaders to bring equality to all levels of government.
“I am honored to be among an all-star roster of hardworking LGBTQ legislators nominated for the Baldwin Breakthrough Award,” said Cyr (D-Truro).
The award is named after Tammy Baldwin, the junior U.S. Senator from Wisconsin. She was first elected in 2012 and made history as Wisconsin’s first woman to serve in the U.S. Senate and the first openly gay member elected to the Senate.
“Senator Tammy Baldwin is a personal hero of mine; it’s humbling to be recognized nationally for the work we are doing to look out for some of the most vulnerable residents of the Commonwealth,” Truro said.
The winner will be chosen at the Institute’s annual conference next week in Washington D.C.
