Cyr Picks Up Healthcare Endorsement

TRURO – The state’s largest union and professional association for registered nurses has announced that they are supporting State Senator Julian Cyr as he runs for re-election. Cyr also picked up the support of Mass-Care, the campaign for single payer health care in Massachusetts.

“Julian Cyr respects and supports the work registered nurses do every day to protect our patients and our profession,” MNA President Donna Kelly-Williams said. “From his experience working in public health, Julian clearly understands the vital role nurses play in delivering safe, high-quality patient care and will advocate for efforts to improve that care.”

“Nurses are the key to improving public healthcare, and I am honored to have their support,” Cyr said. “From tackling the opioid epidemic to ensuring dignified care for our seniors and keeping healthcare affordable, I look forward to continuing to work hand-in-hand with the MNA to solve the most pressing public health issues in our state. I’m humbled and honored to receive this endorsement.”

“Senator Cyr has demonstrated real progress to ensuring universal access to affordable, accessible healthcare in his first term,” said Pat Berger, Chair of Mass-Care. “He sponsored and successfully passed (by a bipartisan vote of 35-3) an amendment in the Senate’s Health Care bill to require the Health Policy Commission to study the potential cost-savings of a single-payer system; a huge, progressive step forward for our state. We can count on Senator Cyr to advocate for health justice, and we are proud to stand with him in his campaign for re-election.”

“I am proud to have the support of the healthcare champions leading the campaign for single payer healthcare in our state ,” said Senator Cyr. “This session, we worked together to bring attention to single payer and ensure we study the positive impact a single-payer system could have on the cost and delivery of health care in Massachusetts. ”
