HYANNIS – The proposed ban on bump stock devices will be the topic of discussion at a public meeting on Cape Cod Tuesday.
The Grandmothers Against Gun Violence will host Cape and Islands State Senator Julian Cyr (D-Truro) Tuesday morning for a discussion on the matter. The meeting is at 11 a.m. at the Cape Cod Synagogue in Hyannis.
If approved, Massachusetts would be the first state to ban the devices that increase the rate of discharge by a firearm.
Lawmakers on Beacon Hill are facing a Tuesday deadline to address the proposal, which is attached to a spending bill. A House-Senate conference committee was appointed on Friday to resolve differences between the chambers.
Attached to both the House and Senate versions are proposals to ban bump stocks, a device that investigators say was used by the gunman who killed 58 people at a music festival.
