YARMOUTH – The Dennis-Yarmouth and Monomoy Regional School Districts, in collaboration with the Cape Cod Collaborative, have received a $39,000 grant from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
The purpose of the grant is to form partnerships across public school districts with private early learning providers in their communities, including Head Start programs.
The school districts will develop a model strategic plan designed to strengthen and increase opportunities for early childhood education for all children.
“We’re not just interested in expanding pre-school offerings across the Cape, we’re also interested in strengthening what we offer to our very young children,” said D-Y Regional School District Superintendent Carol Woodbury.
The strategic plan model will be developed until May, and then will be submitted to the state on June 15.
The goal of the model is to design a means of expanding and strengthening the quality and access to early childhood education while building on the success of existing programs.
The Grant Planning Committee will seek input from communities, families, students and agencies to identify the needs and challenges of expanding early childhood education.
Local private, early education providers are invited to join the conversations, attend Grant Planning Committee meetings and public forums, as partners in the process of the development of the strategic plan model.
“There will be a strategic plan at the end that will outline some of the actions our four communities should take to enhance and provide expanded pre-school care,” said Woodbury.
