D-Y School Committee To Grapple With Budget

gavelYARMOUTH – The Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District budget is on the agenda of the D-Y School Committee for their meeting Monday night.

The towns of Dennis and Yarmouth are both responsible for the district’s budget. But at this year’s Yarmouth Town Meeting, the members approved $287,000 less than is owed in the current budget.

D-Y School Committee Chairman Brian Carey said it is up to the committee to decide whether to cut the budget or to go back to the towns for more money.

He said without an agreement between the two towns, the state’s Chapter 70 formula would take effect, meaning Yarmouth would owe the additional money.

The school committee’s meeting is Monday at 7 p.m. at the Station Avenue Elementary School in Yarmouth.
