YARMOUTH – Dennis-Yarmouth School District Superintendent Carol Woodbury is slated to receive a three-year contract extension after a vote by the school committee.

The contract would award Woodbury a raise of four percent for each of those years, which would bring her 2017 salary to $166,395.

Committee Chair Brian Carey said that Woodbury performed very well in a review, and that it is prudent to know where the committee stands on her performance well before her contract expires.

“If the majority of the board believes that the superintendent is doing a good job, I think you owe it to the district and the superintendent to tip parameters and expectations of what’s going to come in the future,” he said.

The committee was asked by a number of parents to delay the vote on the contract, many of whom brought up the school’s Leven 3 district status as a marker that it is too early to be negotiating a new contract.

They also questioned why a new contract would be negotiated so close to a committee election.

Carey defended the decision, stating that nearly every year there is a new election.

He said that issues facing the superintendent include school choice numbers and improving Mattacheese Middle School.
