D-Y School Officials To Review Series of Policies Tonight

GavelYARMOUTH – Dennis-Yarmouth school officials will be conducting a public policy review meeting tonight.

The subcommittee will be reviewing 6 policies, including bullying prevention and intervention, the use of security cameras in schools, investment policy, the use of physical restraint, bidding requirements, and emergency plans.

The meeting starts at 6 PM at the school administration building on Station Avenue.

The subcommittee will not discuss adding a new policy regarding sexual relationships between teachers and students, as some residents and town officials have asked. The request comes after a former teacher at Mattacheese Middle School was investigated for having a sexual relationship with a 16 year old student.

Both Yarmouth and Dennis selectmen wanted a review into the matter, but in a recent letter the Boards, the School Committee re-affirmed support for Superintendent Carol Woodbury and the way she handled the investigation.

Dennis police concluded that no crime was committed, because the student was 16, the age of consent.
