DARTMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — Dartmouth’s police chief has filed a $4 million civil rights lawsuit against the town and local officials alleging defamation, pain and suffering and other violations.
The Standard-Times reports that Chief Timothy Lee filed the federal complaint June 1. It also names the town administrator, a selectman and former officer as defendants.
Lee’s attorney says the suit is about “vindicating the wrongs that have occurred” and ensuring that others won’t have to suffer “similar egregious conduct.”
Lee was accused of child exploitation but was exonerated by prosecutors, who found the claims to be unfounded.
The suit also seeks to recoup Lee’s benefits, denied by Dartmouth officials citing insufficient medical documentation. Lee has been on medical leave since March 2015.
A lawyer for the town administrator says his client will be exonerated.
