HYANNIS – The 7th annual Day of Percussion brought experienced musicians from Eastman School of Music, The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, Zildjian and more to give free workshops for Cape residents Sunday at Barnstable High School.

The event was open to all ages and skill levels, and featured clinics in drum sets, keyboards, world percussion and marching band.

Additionally, the Orleans-based travelling percussion band Spirit Winter Percussion performed a sample of their repertoire taken from a set of performances they’ll give across the state in the New Year.

Sharon Tingley, both a member of the group and its Marketing Director, said music – especially percussion – can improve overall health.

For one thing, “it has endorphins, so it keeps you happier,” she said. “It’s a great release when you can’t find words to say exactly how you’re feeling.”

Spirit Winter Percussion is open to all between the ages of 9 and 22.

Tingley said they’ll debut their 2016 show early in the year.
