Dead Humpback Whale Spotted in Stellwagen Bank

PROVINCETOWN – Researchers from the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown are investigating the death of a humpback whale in Cape Cod Bay.

The carcass was located in Stellwagen Bank Saturday afternoon.

The whale was identified by the center as “Vector,” a mature female that was first catalogued in 1984.

The cause of death is unknown. The Marine Mammal Stranding Network run by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will join in the investigation.
