BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — The attorney for a Nantucket man charged with sexually assaulting four women on the island between 2008 and 2015 wants each case tried separately.
According to reports, the attorney for 36-year-old David Matterson will argue in January that the cases should not be consolidated in Barnstable Superior Court.
Matterson has pleaded not guilty to 29 charges including six counts of aggravated rape during the commission of a felony, four counts of kidnapping and four counts of assault and battery.
Prosecutors say in each instance Matterson broke into the women’s homes armed with a knife, bound them and sexually assaulted them.
Matterson’s attorney was in court on Wednesday regarding issues related to evidence discovery.
The motion to sever the cases is scheduled to be heard Jan. 26.
