BOSTON – State Senator Vinny deMacedo (R-Plymouth) gave his first address to the Senate this week.

Representing the Plymouth and Barnstable District, deMacedo addressed a variety of topics, including voicing support for state funding for Bourne to cover the costs of educating children at Camp Edwards. He also spoke on the region’s heroin epidemic.

“We’ve done more than we’ve ever done in the history of the commonwealth of Massachusetts in addressing substance abuse and treatment,” deMacedo said of recent legislative efforts. “What I have seen over the last three years has just literally shocked me. Every day, I run in to somebody new who tells me a brother or a sister or a friend or a cousin has been taken in by this epidemic of addiction to heroin.”

Vinny deMacedo was elected to replace former Senate President Therese Murray. He spent 16 years in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
