BARNSTABLE – The former State Representative in the 2nd Barnstable District is crossing party lines and is endorsing the Republican candidate for the position.

Demetrius Atsalis, a democrat, has endorsed Will Crocker, a republican, ahead of the November election. Atsalis held the job from 1999 to 2013 before losing a primary to Brian Mannal.

Atsalis defeated Crocker, a Barnstable Town Councilor, in 2006.

“In 2006 it was a campaign with two guys with different ideologies, but in the end we were friends. That’s why I’ve decided to cross party lines,” Atsalis said in a release from the Crocker campaign. “Will’s going to work hard and he’s going to do a great job up on Beacon Hill. Will’s been around, he knows the people and knows the issues that face the 2nd Barnstable District.”

Crocker is unopposed in Thursday’s state primary. He will face the winner of the democratic primary, Aaron Kanzer or Margeaux Weber.

Mannal is not seeking re-election.
