BOURNE – Dukes County Sheriff Michael McCormack, a Democrat, is endorsing his Republican Barnstable County counterpart for re-election.
McCormack is backing Jim Cummings ahead of his general election challenge from Democrat Randy Azzato. Cummings is seeking a fourth term as sheriff.
In a statement, McCormack called Cummings an “innovator in corrections and public safety.”
“Politics should not matter when it comes to law and order issue,” said McCormack. “Even though Sheriff Cummings and I are not members of the same political party, I consider him a friend and an excellent public servant.”
“For decades Sheriff McCormack has honorably served the people of Martha’s Vineyard. I am especially humbled and grateful to have his support as we are members of different political parties,” Cummings said.
