Dennis Beaches to Implement Carry In Carry Out Trash Policy This Summer

DENNIS – The town of Dennis Beach Committee and Department of Public Works have announced they are piloting a carry in – carry out policy for trash at three Dennis beaches.

This new policy states that beach goers will be responsible for any and all trash items they bring to these beaches this summer.

The Depot St., Harborview, and Raycroft Beaches have adopted this new trash policy, effective immediately.

For the 2019 summer season, there will be no trash receptacles at these locations and corresponding signage will be posted along the beaches to inform patrons of the new polices.

Chairwoman of the Dennis Beach Committee Connie Mooers said, “What it basically is, is that there will be no trash barrels and there is signs already on the beaches that say you bring your trash in you take it off.”

“It’s to encourage people to not bring as much trash to the beach.”

This is a trial program for these locations and similar programs have been tested in the past at other recreational and park areas in Dennis.

“I think people have to give it a chance, I hope people will give it a chance, if it doesn’t work it is a pilot program so if it doesn’t work then we won’t do it again next year,” Mooers continued.

The Dennis beaches opened for the season Memorial Day weekend and are open to the public seven days a week until Monday, September 2nd
