Dennis Planners Looking at Changes for Route 134 Corridor

KA_Dennis_town hall 31_11713DENNIS – Zoning for the Route 134 corridor in Dennis has remained unchanged for more than 40 years, but the town’s economic development committee is looking to change that.

A mixed-use rezoning of the area is being discussed and would focus on a residential that the town’s planner says is vital for growth.

“If there’s a future for the town for meeting a mixed use future and bring younger generations back into the town of Dennis it’s to create something in this area that can give us a 24-hour population,” Dennis Town Planner Dan Fortier said.

Discussions have been ongoing for nearly a year, and the town is also working with the Cape Cod Commission to try and move plans forward.

“We’re working with the Cape Cod Commission to try to come up with a vision that would allow some regulatory relief for a mixed use development area that would allow us to see developments that are larger than 9900 square feet,” Fortier said.

Given the square footage being discussed, the residential component would likely involve condominium or apartments.

Any proposal would have to be approved by the town’s planning board and selectmen before being presented to voters. The committee is hoping to bring a proposal to voters sometime next year.
