DENNIS – Dennis police said they are actively investigating the alleged attempted abduction of two young boys yesterday afternoon.

A 9-year-old and a 12-year-old said a man approached them on Dr. Bottero Road near Chapin Beach and asked if they wanted candy and placed his hand on one of the boys shoulder, according to Dennis Police Crime Prevention Officer Nicholas Patsavos.

“There’s no suspect right now but there are multiple leads and a lot of citizens are calling in with information,” Patsavos said. “We are investigating each piece of information that comes our way.”

After interviewing the victims again, police released a sketch of the possible suspect drawn by a technician from the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Unit and Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The suspect, a white male in his 40s or 50s with balding dirty blonde hair with a goatee and long sideburns, was driving a newer Land Rover or Range Rover that is grey or silver with a bluish tint.

Patsavos praised the way the children and their parents handled the situation.

“The kids were smart,” he said. “They were trained by their parents that if a stranger is going to approach you and offer you anything then that is a dangerous situation and their parents taught them well and they did the right thing.”

Patsavos said this is an example of how parents need to prepare their children.

“The most important thing is to teach your children, if there is danger, to run and yell as loud as you can, ‘call 9-1-1,’” he said. That’s going to get everyone’s attention and someone will call 9-1-1.”

Less than two weeks ago two men were arrested for allegedly attempting to abduct a teenage girl who was waiting at her bus stop in East Falmouth.
