Dennis Seeks Public Comment for Emergency Mitigation Plan

KA_Dennis_Mayflower Beach01_11315DENNIS – The town’s federally-mandated Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan draft is available for public comment.’

The document secures the town’s funding from FEMA in the event of a natural disaster or emergency.

It will also allow the town to seek additional grants from a variety of funding sources; in particular, grants for flood-proofing in prone areas is a path town planner Dan Fortier said they are exploring.

Dennis will use committee meetings, town libraries, the Dennis Planning Blog and other resources to distribute copies of the draft.

Fortier said natural resource management is the backbone of the plan.

“It’s a very broad plan that covers a lot and probably has more of the ‘general’ than covering any specific capital project,” he said. “It identifies hazards: storms, wildfire, flooding, snowstorms – then identifies things to do to try to make the entire community prepared.”

The plan is a five-year update from a previously more regional type of plan the town took part in last round.

The draft is currently online at https://dennismaplanningdept.wordpress.com/.
