BOSTON (AP) — Boston Democrat Linda Dorcena Forry caught many colleagues off-guard with the announcement she was leaving the Senate to become a vice president of a Boston construction firm.

The daughter of Haitian immigrants and the state’s only black senator, her resignation leaves a large void to fill for advocates of minority inclusion in state government. It also triggers renewed speculation over the potential outcome of an ongoing ethics probe involving former Senate President Stan Rosenberg.

Dorcena Forry was one of the first senators to express her interest in becoming Senate leader should a permanent vacancy arise.
