Developer Could Add New Walkway to Fisherman’s Wharf

IMG_1947PROVINCETOWN – A new walkway to Fisherman’s Wharf could happen if a developer receives the necessary local, state and federal permits.

Chuck Lagasse wants to build a 10 foot wide walkway that runs along the west side of the wharf and adds to the width.

The walkway goes around to the end of the pier, then crosses over the beach and to the square across the street from Town Hall.

Lagasse discussed the proposed walkway during a presentation to Provincetown selectmen last month.

“Me, my wife and the team that will be here, we have a long history of planning and improving both wharfs and piers starting in Newburyport many years ago,” said Lagasse.

The wharf was purchased by Lagasse in February for $3.5 million and includes over 180 parking spaces, several buildings, 50 boat slips and a restaurant.

Lagasse wants to make the wharf a popular destination for yachts and boats up to 300 feet with restaurant and hotel amenities on the site.

Before the permits can be acquired next year for the walkway, Lagasse is building a new concrete dock and floating docks will be added to the east side.

“We’re long-term owners, we’re not people that come in here, develop an amenity that the town doesn’t want and leave,” said Lagasse. “Ann and I love becoming part of the community and it’s been fun already.”

Plans to convert a former ice house on the wharf into employee housing is already underway with the intent of adding more employee housing in the future.

The wharf’s bathroom and shower facilities are being upgraded and over 17,000 square feet of wave attenuator docks and floats will be added to the west side of the pier once Lagasse receives the necessary permits.
