UPDATE: Four Cape Cod Schools Receive Bomb Threats

FALMOUTH – Four Cape Cod schools were impacted by bomb threats Friday afternoon.

Falmouth High School and Mashpee Middle/High School were evacuated following threats, according to statements from police and school officials.

Bourne High School also received what Superintendent Steven Lamarche described as a “non-specific/non-credible” threat of a bomb just before regular dismissal.

Barnstable Police Sgt. Kevin Tynan said a threat was made on Barnstable High School at 1:30, but there was no evacuation.

Falmouth Police said their investigation revealed that the threat was likely a hoax, but students and staff were evacuated from the school as a precaution and the school is being searched.

According to a post on the Falmouth Police Facebook page, the threat is one of many that was directed to several schools in the region.

Students in Mashpee were evacuated around 1:40 p.m. after the Middle/High School received a phoned-in bomb threat. According to Acting Superintendent Patty DeBoer, Principal Mark Balestracci immediately contacted Mashpee Police.

A statement emailed to parents said that  within minutes, emergency personnel were in place helping school staff to further evaluate the situation. Students and staff exited the building at 1:50 p.m.

DeBoer said that Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline and his team determined that the threat was not credible. All of the Mashpee Middle/High School after-school and evening activities have been cancelled.

In Bourne, police visually inspected the school and a State Police trooper and his K-9 unit swept the gym, locker rooms, weight room and trainer’s room in anticipation of Friday night basketball games.
