Diehl Continues to Slam Warren for Pro Police Rally Comments at Bourne Press Conference

BOURNE – U.S. Senate candidate and State Rep. Geoff Diehl continued to hammer incumbent Senator Elizabeth Warren in Bourne on Wednesday for claiming he attended a rally in the town “organized by the largest anti-Muslim hate group in America.”

Diehl held a press conference in Bourne on Wednesday afternoon as part of a tour across the state during the final stretch of the campaign.

“Today I am surrounded by many of the same good people who came out for the Back the Blue rally last April. The rally was in support of our law enforcement.  I know that is a foreign idea to our Senator, but that doesn’t give her the right to call these people racist.  Senator Warren owes them, along with our law enforcement community, an apology,” said Diehl.

That rally was part of the “Back the Blue” campaign in an effort to show support for law enforcement. It took place on April 22, just ten days following the shooting death of Yarmouth Police Sergeant Sean Gannon.

“Senator Warren is all about partisanship and attacking.  If she had done her homework before attacking, she would have seen it was a rally in support of the police after the shooting of Officer Gannon.  Warren is so out of touch she could not even pronounce the name of the town correctly,” Diehl said as he continued to slam Warren.

“It is time for the Senator to admit her mistakes and apologize.  Our law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect us.  They deserve better.”

The rally was organized by ACT for America, an organization that is “focused on educating, engaging, and mobilizing citizens and elected officials to impact legislative outcomes to keep America safe and secure,” according to its website.

ACT for America has been labeled as a hate group by the South Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a non-profit legal advocate organization specializing in civil rights and public interest litigation. On the SPLC’s website, they say that ACT for America “has undoubtedly grown to become the largest anti-Muslim group in America.”

Diehl first demanded Warren apologize immediately following her comments during the Friday night debate on WBZ.

On Saturday, Diehl issued a statement to CapeCod.com, saying, “It is disappointing that Senator Warren doesn’t know that the town’s name is Bourne not Burn.”

“It is even worse that she would try to suggest that a rally to back police officers is racist. This is not the first time she has linked the police to racism. Geoff Diehl will be a Senator who supports our police. He knows that they are heroes, not racists,” said Diehl on Saturday.

In addition to the Bourne press conference, Diehl also made stops in Canton, Brighton and New Bedford.

In New Bedford, Diehl took part in ‘Candidates Night’ held by the New Bedford Standard Times. The newspaper slammed Warren and Governor Charlie Baker for denying requests to attend the debate in the city. Diehl is expected to get a full half hour of speaking time with Warren’s absence.

“Even today Warren is not making the time to go to the New Bedford Standard Times forum.  She doesn’t believe that you are important.  I believe you deserve a Senator who wants the job,” protested Diehl. “Maybe if she paid more attention to the Cape and the South Coast area, she would know how to pronounce Bourne. Warren is focused on the White House. I will be focused on your house.”

Diehl also announced his latest public support from the law enforcement community, an endorsement from the Massachusetts Coalition of Police (MassCOP). The endorsement demonstrates the most police backing a statewide candidate for public office has ever received.
