Diehl Endorsed by Sheriff Cummings

BARNSTABLE – Barnstable County Sheriff Jim Cummings has formally endorsed Republican U.S. Senate candidate Geoff Diehl, currently serving as a State Representative.  (R-Whitman)

“I am honored to have received Sheriff Cummings’ endorsement. He has been a great leader for Barnstable on public safety. Sheriff Cummings is well respected and his strong support will help us win the Cape,” said Diehl.

“Geoff is the only candidate with serious plans on fighting the opioid epidemic and ending illegal immigration. He will make a difference for us in the Senate, “Cummings said.

After a career with the State Police, which culminated in his position as the head of the Detective Lieutenant in charge of the State Police Detectives covering Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties, Cummings retired to run for political office and was sworn in as Barnstable County Sheriff in January of 1999. He’s been reelected three times.

“We can count on him to put public safety first,” said Cummings in a statement.

“I like that Diehl has traveled to the border to see the problem firsthand. In the legislature, he has had the courage to boldly fight against illegal immigration,” said Cummings.

Diehl will face off in the Republican Primary against Republicans John Kingston, a business owner, and Beth Lindstrom, also a business owner. The winner of that contest will take on incumbent Democrat U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren.
