Discussion in Provincetown to Focus on Cape Cod Changes

PROVINCETOWN – A University of Massachusetts historian will lead a discussion in Provincetown next weekend about change on Cape Cod.

The Provincetown Public Library will host “The Changing Cape: A Conversation about Protecting Places that Matter in Our Community,” on Sunday, November 6 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

The event is the last in a series of discussions led by UMass historian Dr. David Glassberg.

According to Glassberg, since the establishment of the Cape Cod National Seashore in 1961, there have been dramatic social, economic, and ecological changes on Cape Cod that threaten to alter or destroy storied landscape features and lifestyles on the Outer Cape.

Participants attending will discuss places on the Cape they care about the most, the threats these places face and what could be done to protect them.

The public is invited to hear and tell stories and view contemporary and historical photos that highlight the changes on Cape Cod.

Residents are asked to visit “The Changing Cape” Facebook page and share their ideas.
