Distribution Event to Celebrate Local Funding of Fish for Families Program

HARWICH – The Family Pantry of Cape Cod in Harwich will celebrate the local funding of the Fish for Families program from the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance with a distribution event Thursday evening.

The program which has received funding from Cape Air and Cape Cod Healthcare provides locally caught fish to families in need.

Cape Air founder and CEO, and former Cape and Islands State Senator, Dan Wolf will join fishermen to distribute dogfish fillets to Family Pantry clients from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Queen Anne Road facility.

“Fish caught by Cape Cod fishermen, in Cape Cod waters, shared with Cape Cod neighbors and families – that to us at Cape Air is an inspiring combination, a great program we’re proud to support,” said Wolf.

Dogfish is an abundant fish species that is underutilized. They are harvested locally from July through late November. Dogfish is one of the several species that the program provides for clients of The Family Pantry and other Cape Cod Hunger Network pantries.

“Fishermen really appreciate knowing that the fish they catch can feed people here on Cape Cod who sometimes need a little help making ends meet,” said John Pappalardo, the CEO of the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance. “And to have this kind of support from community-minded organizations like Cape Air and Cape Cod Healthcare is truly a vote of confidence in our Fish for Families program.”
