PROVINCETOWN  – The Coast Guard was sending a dive team out of Provincetown Thursday morning to search for a New Bedford-based boat that has been missing in Cape Cod Bay since Tuesday.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Nicole Groll said a sunken vessel was detected on sonar early this morning south of Provincetown.

Dive crews from Sandwich and Barnstable fire departments will check to see if it’s the 23-foot Wellcraft “Dad Sea Cave.”

Carlos Amaral, Dylan Amaral, and Mario Fialho were scheduled to return to the Sandwich Marina from their fishing trip on the boat around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. They did not return as planned.

Groll said Coast Guard boats from Stations Provincetown, Chatham and Cape Cod Canal were all responding to the area. A Jayhawk helicopter and Ocean Sentry plane from Air Station Cape Cod are also involved in the operation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Coast Guard at 508-457-3211.
