Doug The Quahog Makes Summer Forecast Prediction

FALMOUTH – Cape Cod’s favorite weather prognosticator, Doug the Quahog, made his annual summer forecast prediction yesterday in Falmouth.

With the help of his human sidekick, Captain Johnny Quahog of the Quahog republic, and Boston 25 Morning News anchor Gene Lavanchy, Doug predicted 75 days of great beach weather for the 2019 summer months.

“It’s a real special day, it is a huge part of just setting the tone of how the summer’s going to be,” said Captain Johnny Quahog.

“If we can encourage visitors to come down to the Cape, Doug’s all for it and Johnny Quahog is all for it too.”

The announcement was made during a ceremony presented by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and was held at the oceanfront Sea Crest Beach Hotel in North Falmouth.

When Doug arrived he was escorted to his prognostication perch by the Quahog Security Detail, a team of black-suited men and women armed with clamming rakes.

Doug whispered his prediction into the ear of Captain Quahog, who is the only human that can speak to him.

“On the first day of summer Doug comes out and makes his prediction, only to Johnny Quahog, and he came out with 70 plus great beach days for the summer this year so that’s great news,” said Gene Lavanchy, who served as special emcee for the event.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Lavanchy is a vital part of the Boston 25 Morning News team, anchoring a majority of the six hour local morning news cast.

He also field anchors Boston 25 Morning News’ popular “Zip Trips”.

“After one of the rainiest Aprils on record, people were ready for some sunny news from Doug, who has turned into one shell of a local celebrity,” Said Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Wendy Northcross.
