BOURNE – Visitors leaving the Cape on Memorial Day in heavy traffic will see protestors as they head over the Sagamore Bridge.
The Cape Downwinders are organizing to protest the plan by federal and state officials to keep Cape Codders in place in the event of an incident at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has placed the plant under increased oversight due to safety violations and unplanned shutdowns.
The plant’s owner, Entergy, said it plans to close the facility on May 31, 2019.
The protestors will gether in the Christmas Tree Shop parking lot along Route 6 in Bourne from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is welcome to join the protest.
The Cape Downwinders mission is to take action to protect the lives and welfare of the residents of the Cape and Islands against the threat of death or injury resulting from the use of nuclear energy at the Plymouth plant.
