DPU Approves New Energy Rates for Eversource Customers On the Cape

EversourceHYANNIS – The Department of Public Utilities has approved Eversource Energy’s filing for a new energy rate for basic service customers on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.

The rate decrease from 10.8 cents to 8.2 cents will take effect on July 1, and will impact roughly 26,000 basic service customers.

“Having that type of drop as we start getting into the hottest days of summer is always good news for customers,” said Eversource spokesman Mike Durand.

The rate drop of about 24 percent is a reflection of less gas usage during the summer months and a historic drop of electricity rates.

“Whether the rate goes up or down, we charge exactly what we pay for it, so when we see a six-month decrease in what we’re going to pay, our customers see a six-month decrease,” Durand said.
