HYANNIS – Russian historian Dr. Sergei Khrushchev discussed a number of topics during an event hosted by the JFK Hyannis Museum at the Cape Codder Resort & Spa in Hyannis on Thursday night.
He talked about the relationship between his father, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev and President Kennedy and details of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He said that back in the 1960s there was real confrontation between both countries, not made up problems like there is today.
“Successful diplomacy, it makes countries friends, and failed leadership, they make them enemy and create hostilities that have no ground right now.”
Khrushchev is a senior fellow at the Watson Institute of International Studies at Brown University.
He also discussed the history of the Soviet missile and space programs and provided a view into modern Russia and current geo-political concerns and events.
With the issue of Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential election, Khrushchev said he doesn’t believe the reports.
“Other countries are interested in results of the American elections,” said Khrushchev. “It is very clear that other countries want to plan this process in their own interests. Can they do it? No.”
