BOURNE – Public comments are being accepted on a draft final report by the Air Force Civil Engineer Center which calls for no further action for a munitions area at Joint Base Cape Cod.

Surface soil samples were collected at the Otis Target Butt to assess the presence of munitions constituents in areas where small arms were used.

Analysis of the samples indicated no evidence of munitions constituents’ impacts above background or screening levels.

The AFCEC has determined there is no evidence of munitions and explosives of concern and the Munitions Response Area does not present a risk to human health of the environment.

A public comment period runs through July 20.

A copy of the Draft Final No Further Response Action Planned Decision Document is available on AFCEC’s web page at www.massnationalguard.org/jbcc/afcec.html.

The Decision Document is also available at the main public libraries in the towns of Bourne, Mashpee, Falmouth and Sandwich.

Comments may be submitted to Douglas Karson, 322 East Inner Road, Otis ANGB, MA 02542 or by emailing [email protected].

At the close of the public comment period AFCEC, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection will review and consider all comments submitted.
