FALMOUTH – The Sagamore Beach man who drove his car into the Cape Cod Canal last month was arraigned on a number of charges Thursday at Falmouth District Court

55-year-old David Koczwara is charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, malicious destruction of property over $250, and trespassing with a motor vehicle.

Koczwara is accused of intentionally driving his car off an embankment in Buzzards Bay, taking out power lines, and then plunging into the canal. Koczwawa swam to safety and was treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

He returns to court for a pretrial hearing on Nov. 29.
