WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The man charged with crashing into a police vehicle on the Massachusetts Turnpike resulting in the death of a state trooper has been released from the hospital.

Authorities said Monday that 30-year-old David Njuguna, of Webster, was released last Thursday after spending more than a week in the hospital following the March 16 crash in Charlton. The crash took the life of 44-year-old Trooper Thomas Clardy, who was in the breakdown lane making a traffic stop.

Njuguna is scheduled to appear April 27 in Dudley District Court for a show-cause hearing when officials will ask that he formally be charged with negligent driving, marked lanes violations, and speeding.

Njuguna’s family has said he does not remember the crash. No one answered the door at his home Monday.
