HYANNIS – Cape Cod police stations will be collecting unwanted drugs on April 28th from 10:00 until 2:00. The date has been declared to be National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
People with medications that are past their expiration date should be aware that they pose a great risk if consumed. They can also be a detriment to the environment, since drugs that are not properly disposed of often end up in water supplies, which has been shown to present a health hazard when used for drinking or cooking.
There is also the danger of the drugs being found and taken by someone else, including children.
Liquid medications must be in a sealed bottle.
It is not necessary to remove labels and there is nothing that needs to be done beyond dropping them off. Liquid medications must be in a sealed bottle.
Cape Cod Healthcare, The Barnstable County Regional Substance Abuse Council and Gosnold have teamed up to sponsor the event. More information is available at www.dea.gov or 508-540-2317.
