Duffy Health Center Looking for Summer Supplies for Area Homeless

DuffyHYANNIS – The summer heat is approaching and donations are being accepted to help the regions homeless stay safe.

Duffy Health Center has organized its “Christmas in July” drive to benefit those less fortunate during the summer season and will be accepting donations through July 15.

Duffy is looking for donations of small containers of sunscreen, new t-shirts and underwear, deodorant and small boxes of granola bars.

Cash donations will be accepted to purchase backpacks.

Case Manager Karen Danskin says many Duffy clients lack basic essentials during the summer season. She says many homeless individuals carry their possessions in ripped plastic grocery bags and an item as simple as a backpack can make a huge difference.

Donations of money and items can be dropped off at the reception desk in the lobby of Duffy Health Center on Main Street in Hyannis Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Items will be packaged and handed out to Duffy clients throughout the summer.

Duffy Health Center’s goal is to improve the quality of life for homeless individuals on the Cape through community collaborations, medical, mental health and addiction treatment, along with case management and housing support services.

Duffy provided services for over 3,000 Cape Codders last year.
