E-bikes Now Allowed Along Cape Cod National Seashore

Superintendent of the Cape Cod National Seashore Brian Carlstrom.

HYANNIS – The use of e-bikes is now permitted within the Cape Cod National Seashore.

Seashore Superintendent Brian Carlstrom said that e-bikes allow those who may not be able to ride regular bicycles, due to a number of factors, to still enjoy what the area has to offer.

“E-bikes are just another way to access the seashore on a bicycle. It’s really just another way to get out and enjoy it through technology that continues to advance,” Carlstrom said.

The Cape Cod National Seashore will continue to monitor the use of e-bikes to ensure that all riders are safe, and will keep the right to limit use of e-bikes or impose restrictions or additional conditions.

“Just be respectful towards each other,” Carlstrom said.

E-bikes that propel forward with no pedaling will be restricted to roads where motor vehicles are permitted. E-bikes that solely assist riders with pedaling will be able to ride along with regular bicycles.
